richland northeast student government At Richland Northeast High School, Student Government (Senate & House) plays a crucial role in shaping the day to day activities of the school. From planning pep rallies to diversity event, RNE student government ensures school spirit is on full display throughout the four walls of Northeast, while also promoting servant leadership, accountability, and responsibility for all students.
Senate, one portion of student government, consists of elected representatives from all grade levels, 9th through 12th, and meet weekly to plan different events and the surrounding community. Senate is divided into 7 committees, publicity, outreach, recreation, community service, scrapbook, and school spirit and service. Each committee works to improve aspects of the school and giving back to the neighboring community while addressing the various needs of effective governance, and are modified to fit the specific needs of Richland Northeast students. Throughout the school year, Senate is responsible for the majority of school-wide events, from start to finish. Within the neighboring areas, Senate has organized Trick or Trunk for children in the community, facilitated Families Helping Families for underprivileged in the Northeast Columbia area, and has hosted different walks, runs, and awareness campaigns for different national and local issues. Within the four wall of the northeast, Senate has represented the heart and traditions of northeast to incoming Freshman at Fresh Start every year, planned pep rallies to boost school spirit and highlight different sports teams and organizations, and given student an opportunity to shine in the spotlight in the Miss and Mr. RNE pageants. House, another portion of student government, is comprised of students that work closely together and serve to represent their grade level. From 9th through 12th grades, students are broken up into what are known as class Houses. Unlike Senate, each House undertakes responsibilities unique to that specific grade level and serve to advocate, support, and represent their class at school-wide events, the neighboring community, and the needs and interests of their grade level. The work RNE Student Senate has been recognized several times over through regional, state, and national awards for works within Richland Northeast and the neighboring area. As a member of the South Carolina Association of Student Councils (SCASC). Northeast Senate is part of the 4A Student Council rank, placing us in a very competitive rank with the student council in South Carolina. Within SCASC, we have been recognized as Gold Honor Council for the 5th year, placed 2nd for schools with the most school spirit, and members of Senate have been inducted into the SCASC Terry McCoy Hall of Fame. |
